Swamp Wife seems to have luck on their side. The Seattled-based project consists of Abby Wrath (vocals/guitar), L. Campbell (guitar), Emma Daughters (drums), and Lola Gil (bass). All members had crossed paths prior to forming the band but the stars didn’t align until a rainy spring day in 2023 when Swamp Wife was born.
Swamp Wife is a not just a band, but a multi-media project ranging from costumes and masks to carefully crafted zines and music videos. You can’t help but hear their influences in the perfectly crafted chaos of each song - Cryogeyser, Mazzy Star, and Life Without Buildings. It’s difficult to place Swamp Wife into a genre as each song takes you on a journey from shoegaze to post-punk to pop. Despite their range, their sound remains full and cohesive.

All members had crossed paths prior to forming the band but the stars didn’t align until March of 2023. Campbell and Lola were in the same literature class in 2018. Abby and Lola met while Lola was running a house venue. Emma and Campbell were briefly coworkers at a cafe. It wasn’t until Abby and Emma discovered each other on TikTok that the pieces started falling into place. Then on a rainy spring day in a basement in the Roosevelt neighborhood of Seattle, Swamp Wife was born.

You can’t help but hear their influences in the perfectly crafted chaos of each song - Cryogeyser, Mazzy Star, and Life Without Buildings. It’s easy to get lost in a Swamp Wife song, often a fuzzy shoegaze-esque riff drifts in supported by emotional and clever lyrics. Their affection for and dedication to physical media can be heard in their analog textures and careful imperfection. It’s difficult to place Swamp Wife into a genre as each song takes you on a journey from shoegaze to post-punk to pop. Despite their range, their sound remains full and cohesive.
Their upcoming EP, Your Love is All I Know, creates a beautiful synergy of each of their influences and experiences. Inspired by suburban horror, liminal spaces, the uncanny valley, and various horror classics, Your Love is All I Know attempts to capture the feelings of imperfect nostalgia. Like trying to remember your childhood home, but nothing’s quite right, the landscapes and faces have all changed. Your Love is All I Know is releasing April 4th 2025.
